Lauder Ukulele Festival

Manitoba Hal & Paul Jonson
When: 13 October
Where: St Faith’s Church Hall, 46 Hawke St, New Brighton
Tickets: $15 at the door
and bring your ukulele
Phone: Kerry (03) 388-0115
Workshop: 6.30 p.m.
Concert: 7.30 p.m.
Two legendary Bluesmen, Canadian Maintoba Hal and New Zealand’s Paul Jonson.
Doors open 6.00 p.m., half-time refreshments.
The mini workshop in front of the concert will be a dialogue between Hal and myself about how to play blues on your ukulele. In this short session we’ll cover the essentials, like setting up your uke, tunings, strumming and fingerpicking techniques, slide, instrument choices for different styles of play etc, as well as field questions from the floor, and give folks a go at rotating through a 12 bar blues chord progression – all simple three chord stuff which is not yet common, and not often shared.
I’ll bring handouts for the keen blues players to go home and study as well as a 12 bar chord rotation handout in the key of A and C.
If some folks are a bit challenged by the quick introduction to playing the blues on their uke, the handouts will be excellent reference for their future playing, and a fun thing to practice in your club setting.
Please give us an “Expression of Interest” so we have an idea of numbers.
